        Background & Career Path

What inspired you to pursue a career in law?

I was interested in legal TV shows in high school, and then was inspired to pursue a career in law while completing Legal Studies in Years 9 and 10. During this time, I enjoyed legal problem-solving and the complexity of legal problems and issues – so much so, that it sparked my career path!

Where did you study law, and what are your academic qualifications?

        • Bachelor of Laws (Honours) / Bachelor of Business (Communication: joint marketing/PR/advertising focus) at the Queensland University of Technology
        • Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (PLT) at the Queensland University of Technology

        Expertise & Specialisation

What areas of law do you specialise in, and what attracted you to these areas?

I have a particular passion for incidents that happen on the road, in the workplace, or in a public place. I’m attracted to this area of law because it is problem-solving for people.

There is something awesome about being able to shake someone’s hand, or even give them a hug, after you have settled their claim. Everything I do, I do to support and help my clients through a difficult time.

What professional achievement, or particular case outcome, are you most proud of?

I’ve worked on some significant and impactful cases, but am most proud of being able to help mentor the next generation of legal professionals.

Having the opportunity to ‘pass the torch’ and work alongside skilled and teachable junior lawyers at Trilby Misso is something I cherish.

        Philosophy & Mentorship

What do you believe sets Trilby Misso apart from others?

Trilby Misso maintains a genuine focus on each client – making sure that they’re in the loop, and that they feel comfortable with any decision that is being made. It’s all about putting the client first. We always act with our clients’ best interests at heart.

Internally, our team culture has a strong emphasis on respect, that starts at the very top. We’re less focused on time recording and meeting KPIs, and more focused on helping vulnerable people obtain compensation.

What trends in the legal industry interest you the most?

Clients are becoming more informed and more interested in the claims process. While we’ve always strived to keep clients involved from start to finish, there seems to be growing interest in the process we take to make a claim.

The introduction of technology in law has also been a game changer, as it makes our services faster and more accessible than ever before. This is a great step forward for our clients, particularly those injured in rural and regional areas, as it has made more options available to them.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in law?

Focus on developing strong emotional intelligence. This skill is invaluable because it goes beyond just “knowing the right answer”. You’ll need to make decisions that are in the best interest of your client, which requires understanding and empathy.

Also, our clients are often facing some of the most challenging moments of their lives—financial strain, emotional stress, and the responsibility of families depending on them. Responding to these emotional complexities will make you not just a good lawyer, but a trusted advisor and advocate for those in need.

Developing judgment and empathy will set you apart and help you handle the responsibility that comes with representing others.

What professional attribute/attributes define an impactful, effective lawyer?

The ability to listen and be patient. This lays the foundation for understanding the nuances of a case and the perspectives of all involved.

Curiosity and creativity are also important. A lawyer must be ready to ask probing questions and think outside the box.

Finally, paying attention to details can significantly enhance a claim’s value, improve client satisfaction, and ensure clients feel understood.

        Challenges & Learning

Can you talk about a significant challenge you’ve overcome in your career?

Balancing my career and motherhood has been one of my biggest challenges, because I’m determined to do well at both.

Thankfully, the culture and team here at Trilby Misso is so supportive of this. The ability to work from home and the flexibility technology offers have also allowed me to be there for my daughters while also helping me provide a great experience for my clients, too.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned during your tenure in law?

Keeping detailed records and timely phone notes is important for accuracy and accountability, so it’s important to make sure this is done effectively.

Equally valuable is staying connected with colleagues. The legal landscape is ever-changing, and no one has all the answers. Leaning on your team for support, asking questions, and offering help in return is key.

        Personal Insights

What do you enjoy the most about life at Trilby Misso?

What stands out at Trilby Misso is the incredible team—long-standing members who’ve been here for years, and new ones who fit right in, all sharing a positive attitude towards our work in the personal injury space.

Plus, the work-life balance and flexibility we have is fantastic, making it easier to manage our professional and personal lives. This combination of great people and a supportive environment is wonderful.

Outside of law, what are your passions or interests?

I love spending time with my two daughters. I’m also quite adventurous when it comes to hobbies, and I’m always on the lookout for something new to learn or do. Although, I haven’t found one particular hobby that has become a long-term passion yet.

What’s your favourite piece of fiction? This could be a book, movie, TV show, or something else.

I enjoy short, engaging fiction. Think TV shows like Brooklyn 99—funny and fast!

And while I’m not big on movies, I find reading their plots on Wikipedia oddly satisfying.

What is one thing about you, that people would be surprised to know?

I am a self-proclaimed ‘not sporty’ person, but I love to watch sport – unless it’s cricket!
