    Background & Career Path

What inspired you to pursue a career in law?

I was inspired to pursue a career in law in my high school years. It all started when I realised I enjoyed English classes, which led me to take Legal Studies during senior school.

I discovered a passion for legal research, crafting arguments, and solving complex problems. This enthusiasm for understanding and navigating the intricacies of law drove me to pursue it as a career.

Where did you study law, and what are your academic qualifications?

    • Bachelor of Laws (Honours) – University of Southern Queensland
    • Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice – (College of Law)

Do you have any other certifications or accreditations?

    • Cert III in Business Administration

    Expertise & Specialisation

What areas of law do you specialise in, and what attracted you to these areas?

I specialise in compensation law, which is a shift from my previous focus on family law before joining Trilby Misso. What drew me to this type of law was the opportunity to advocate for individuals suffering from the result of someone else’s negligence. My work primarily involves motor vehicle incidents and assisting with claims as a result of incidents that may have happened in the workplace.

I enjoy providing a voice for those in vulnerable situations, ensuring they receive the support and compensation they deserve.

What professional achievement, or particular case outcome, are you most proud of?

A standout moment in my career involved a claim we managed to successfully resolve last year, against what initially seemed like unfavorable odds.

Our client believed she was covered by only one insurance policy. However, through thorough research and diligent investigation, we discovered additional coverage. This discovery significantly increased the value of her claim to approximately $400,000.

The outcome not only placed our client in a much stronger financial position than anticipated but also highlighted the importance of thoroughness and perseverance in our work.

Have you received any awards or recognition in your field?

    • Regional Winner for the Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year Award in September of 2020, by the Queensland Training Awards

    Philosophy & Mentorship

What do you believe sets Trilby Misso apart from others?

Our commitment to transparency in the way we do things. For example, we prioritise open communication with our clients about our fees, and the overall management of their claims.

And we make sure that every client fully understands the process, every step of the way.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in law?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions – there isn’t a restriction or limit on learning, whether it be at university or in the workplace.

What professional attribute/attributes define an impactful, effective lawyer?

In this type of law, it is really important to have knowledge of the sector but also to have empathy. You need to have a willingness to listen, to get the best out of each claim for each client.

    Challenges & Learning

Can you talk about a significant challenge you’ve overcome in your career?

I’m still in the early stages of my career, so no significant challenge comes to mind just yet.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned during your tenure in law?

Listening carefully goes a long, long way – it makes such a difference to how you run a claim, and how you work alongside a client.

    Personal Insights

What do you enjoy the most about life at Trilby Misso?

I really value the supportive team and the opportunity to help our clients. The work-life balance, including office and remote work flexibility, is great too.

Outside of law, what are your passions or interests?

I have two puppies, and I love taking them on adventures. I also enjoy relaxing at home, curled up on the couch completing sudoku puzzles.

What’s your favourite piece of fiction? This could be a book, movie, TV show, or something else.

Criminal Minds is a mainstay and is something that I could rewatch again and again. I also love Belinda Alexandra’s books – anything she writes is great.

What is one thing about you, that people would be surprised to know?

I shoot handguns competitively, and I’ve flown a plane!
